2021 National Night Out – “One Night to Stand Together”

National Night Out (NNO), a community to first responder awareness raising event. Due to the great success of the National Night Out event last year, Ricewood MUD brings our community together once again on Tuesday, October 5th, 2021. This page is your resource for information on the fire and police representatives that serve your neighborhood, as well as relevant safety education. NNO is meant to enhance the relationship between neighbors and first responders within the community.

National Night Out is defined as a means of providing information, educational materials, and technical assistance for the development of effective year-long community-police partnerships that can reduce crime, violence, and substance abuse at the community level. However, National Night Out is more than that, it is a way to get to know your neighbors and bring area residents together on a peaceful level.

National Night Out was initially introduced in August of 1984 through a network of law enforcement agencies and neighborhood watch groups, among other volunteer alliances. That year, 2.5 million neighbors throughout 400 communities in 23 states gathered to celebrate balance and solidarity between law enforcement and the community. In the State of Texas, there are 548 cities that participate in NNO, including the Greater Houston Area and many bordering suburbs.

To honor NNO, with the help of WCA/GFL, Ricewood MUD has provided a way for residents of the District to participate in a safe way. With a police escort, snow cone trucks will be making their way through the neighborhood on October 5th from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., offering free snow cones to residents.

In addition, residents will have an opportunity to participate in the efforts to feed the hungry by donating non-perishables.
